A lifetime of trauma…

A lifetime of trauma and one obstacle that made it that much more difficult to recover from

My baby girl is a 2 year old chihuahua that I saved from a life of neglect and severe abuse. I came across a very dirty man one day that was living in a camper close to my job and when I seen the condition she and 5 other chihuahuas were living in it was just heartbreaking to me. This homeless man had 5 little chihuahuas living in a camper that he never let out. Not even to use the bathroom. But what put me into immediate panic was that they were locked inside on a 90 degree hot day with no ventilation whatsoever. So I pleaded and pleaded with this man to let me find these dogs a better home and finally I convinced him to let me get all but one of the dogs and I found them all great homes. I even got my mom to take one and boy is that baby spoiled now lol. But there was one that was going to need extra attention and love because She was so afraid of the world she would urinate uncontrollably just by a stranger looking in her direction. I then found out that he got her from a drug dealer that tortured her on a daily. This man was guilty of neglect but not abuse. I can tell she was very abused and so I decided to take her home with me to give her the extra attention she was going to need. Long story short her and I have helped each other through some hard times. I lost my fiancée to suicide recently and my baby girl has been my strength and continues to be everyday she’s with me. All those times I felt so alone she was there to remind me I most definitely was not. After struggling myself with housing as I just couldn’t go back to the home I lived in with my finance due to the pain of memories of him and I, I finally got on my feet and am doing better than I ever have on my own. Until now, I decided to rent out my basement to help a “friend” of mine and when I told him he could move in I told him that due to my baby’s trauma and her need for attention I did not want any other pets in the home with us and he agreed but then I found out he was leaving his dog in his truck all night in the middle of winter and so I couldn’t have that and told him to just bring her in and he just kinda got comfortable with her just moving in and even though I never wanted another animal in home I couldn’t let another animal suffer either. Well they live in the basement and us upstairs and the only time the dogs saw each other was the occasional potty trip to the back yard and as far as I seen his dog seemed harmless….. until one day I let them out together as her owner was not home and proceeded to take a shower knowing it was a beautiful day and my zowie loves to bask in the sun. I got out of the shower and went straight to let her back in. I open the door and the big dog came right in but my Zowie didn’t move. My heart dropped and I ran out there in my towel and there was my baby laying there not moving. My day just became a nightmare and I ran and got her bed put her on in and rushed her to the vet they came out and told me that her leg was broken and she had a puncture wound in her side. At first they were worried about her breathing but after an hour of being back there they came out and told me that her leg was broken in a few places and that I would have to pay them $1000 for them to do anything. So they had to wrap her leg because I didn’t have the money and let me take her to go find somewhere else that would work with me more of my finances I have been to another vet and unfortunately I got the same answer. I needed Up to $1000 to get a pen put in her leg and another vet told me 1100 to get her leg amputated I can’t lose my baby and I knew it was time to put in allot of work to save my baby. I had $400 and it was all I had saved up left and rent was right around the corner, but I needed more because I can’t lose this dog, she’s all I have! One vet said they would treat her and if I couldn’t pay they would adopt her out. That would not be good for her as it has taken me a year to get her to where she is now and she’s still not 100% comfortable with people, men especially. she was in pain and couldn’t move and I was dying seeing her like that. Also I kicked out my roommate and his dog so this would never happen again. Well the next day I took her to another vet just to be turned away so that night I got on every charity site for animals I could find that I thought could help and the next day I called the Denver Dumb Friends League and once again they turned me away but gave me the name of an animal center they believed would do payments so I called them immediately and told them my story and they said bring her in. Mind you it’s been now 3 days and all she’s had was her leg wrapped very poorly and I was wearing very thin watching her suffer. I couldn’t sleep eat or do anything but lay with her and just try to comfort her as best I could. So I load her up and take her on the 30 minute drive to Red Rocks Animal Center. The nurse comes out and gets all the information I tell her I have $400 and it’s all I have but she’s in so much pain J plead for them to just work with me And promised to pay back any remainder cost if it was the last thing I had to do. She goes in to speak with the vet and comes out and tells me the vet wants to amputate and he will do it for $800 with the $400 down and set up payment after. So I say yes yes thank you so much and right as she turns to go in and get me all the paperwork I get a call. It’s from a lady at the Red Rover Relief charity organization. She asks me a few questions and tells me to send her the estimate for the cost of the procedure and I tell the vet tech and she hands me the paper. I took a picture and sent it right over. Hand over my baby and drive away pouring tears from my eyes so bad so had to pull over to correct my vision. I get home and right as I’m waking in the door I got the call and she informed me that they will match my $400 which equaled out to $800!!!!!!! They surgery was all paid for now and now all I have to worry about from there on out was the recovery road ahead of us. Come back for daily updates on her condition and embark on this journey of sadness, happiness, heartache, heartwarming adventures. As I can already tell just a few days post operation that this will be a tough road ahead.
